My Web Content Management and Web Development Experience
I have served as content manager and web developer with Glory Publishing LLC for more than 10 years. Glory Publishing LLC is my business, and it is known for providing web content management services to Christian organizations. I market my web content management services to other organizations under my own name.
My Writing and Editing Experience
I have more than 10 years of writing and editing experience. For 2 years, I worked as a full-time editor at American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland. In that capacity, I edited books, reports, proposals, factsheets, websites, newsletters, press releases, abstracts, brochures, conference materials, and other documents for government and private sector clients—including the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; the National Cancer Institute; and The Johns Hopkins University. For 2 years I served as a freelance writer/editor, for a year I served as a writer/editor with Bethel World Outreach Ministries.
My Marketing Operations and Financial Services Experience
I have 5 years of marketing operations experience in the financial services industry. During that time, I served as a marketing associate with Calvert Investments. At Calvert,
- My communication skills came into play: I developed effective partnerships with compliance liaisons of Calvert's key selling partners (KSPs) to facilitate the review and approval of Calvert's marketing materials. I liaised between Calvert's marketing and compliance teams and KSPs' compliance liaisons.
- My database development skills came into play: I developed an efficient database-driven system for filing marketing materials with KSPs for review and approval, for tracking and reporting on the status of those marketing materials, and for tracking KSP policies related to marketing material review. I worked with Calvert's information technology team to develop Calvert's literature usage dashboard, which helped marketing managers gauge the popularity of the marketing materials that they produced. I developed a database-driven plan for the launch and distribution campaign of two Calvert index funds.
- My writing and editing skills came into play: I prepared training manuals for several team processes, including the firm filing, literature ID assignment, and wholesaler Vablet app maintenance processes. I prepared a well-written, well-illustrated document used to train Calvert's distribution team on Calvert's new research system. It was hailed by Calvert's wholesalers as "terrific" and "excellent." One wholesaler wrote, "Laurene, the new document about the Calvert Research System that you drafted is excellent. I really am so glad to have it. It answers a lot of the questions that I have had from advisors."
My Teaching and Tutoring Experience
I have more than 8 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I taught chemistry for a total of 3 years at two Ohio universities (Wright State University and The Ohio State University), and I tutored undergraduates and conducted preparatory classes and summer workshops for prospective students of The College of New Rochelle in Manhattan, New York, for 5 years. Recently, I fulfilled short-term teaching assignments at various Washington, DC, public schools with Kelly Educational Staffing. I am registered with StudyPoint Inc. as a chemistry/SAT/ACT tutor. I teach youths of Bethel World Outreach Capitol Church the Word of God in a lively, interactive, technology-based setting.
My Youth-Mentoring and Community Outreach Experience
I have more than 10 years of youth-mentoring and community outreach experience. In my role as voluntary executive director of GLORY Inc., I led the planning and implementation of activities to mentor youths, to serve families in other ways, and to help in a crisis. I currently serves on GLORY Inc.'s board to help chart the course of the organization.
My Sales Experience
I have a year of experience in sales resulting from energy deregulation: Serving as an independent associate with Ignite Inc., I recruited electric and natural gas customers for Ignite's retail electric and natural gas company (Stream Energy), and I recruited individuals to serve as Ignite independent associates.
My Education, Training, and Licensing
I have a master's degree in chemistry, with highest honors, from Wright State University and a diploma in biblical studies from Bethel School of Ministry in Olney, Maryland. I hold a FINRA Series 6 license and a Maryland life insurance producer license. I have taken numerous online courses in various subjects, including web design, development, and analytics; search engine optimization, marketing, finance, and accounting. I have studied from cover to cover the book Modern Real Estate Practice (18th edition) and worked all the problems in it so as to be knowledeable in the field of real estate.
